Wood Attackers

Insects that bore into stems and branches of trees and shrubs can cause considerable damage or death to those plants. For the most part, these borers attack only plants that are weakened by environmental stress, i.e. drought or flooding, or cultural factors such as mechanical injury from weed trimmers or lawn mowers. This occurs because the plant's normal defenses are diminished as a result of the stresses imposed on the plant by these external factors.

Maintaining optimal growing conditions for plants in landscapes and nurseries, and proper maintenance practices such as pruning and nutrient management can minimize attacks by insect borers.
