Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed and rhizomes

stems - basal crown growth habit

leaves - heart-shaped, hairless, long petioles, margins round, irregularly toothed leaves 1, leaves 2

flowers - 5-petaled, purple or blue sometimes white, long stalked; cleistogamous flowers, inconspicuous near ground, self-pollinating, do not open

seedpods - three-sectioned capsule cleitogamous seedpods 1, cleitogamous seedpods 2
