Common Name: yellow salsify, yellow goat’s-beard
Scientific Name: Tragopogon dubius Scop.
Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - biennial, reproducing by seed biennial roots

stems - upright, smooth, branching growth habit, young plant

leaves - linear, long, sharp-pointed, blueish-green, grass-like, clasping base

flowers - heads of bright yellow ray (ligulate) florets; bracts long, green, pointed; solitary and terminal; open in morning and close by mid-day; form large "puffball" flower heads, mature flower heads, mature flower heads 2

other - contains milky sap
