Common Name: red clover, purple clover
Scientific Name: Trifolium pratense L.
Family Name: Fabaceae (Leguminosae) - Pea or Bean Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed

stems - prostrate, branching, hairless to slightly hair, root at nodes growth habit

leaves - fine hairs or pubescent, long petioles, compound with three leaflets; leaflets oval to obovate, usually with light green to white "v" marking above leaves

flowers - pink to red flowers; heads spherical, short stalks, leaves at base flower heads 1, flower heads 2
