Common Name: wild buckwheat, climbing buckwheat
Scientific Name: Polygonum scandens L.
Family Name: Polygonaceae - Smartweed or Buckwheat Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed

stems - climbing or trailing vine, smooth, branching below, nodes swollen, ocrea (papery or membranous sheath) present at nodes growth habit

leaves - alternate, broad heart-shaped, entire, tip pointed leaves

flowers - greenish-white, small, petals absent; axillary racemes

seeds - 3 sided, usually 3-winged
