Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed and basal shoots

stems - reproductive scapes, upright, leafless, ridged growth habit 1, growth habit 2

leaves - lanceolate to linear, veins parallel and conspicuous below, somewhat upright basal rosette leaves, leaf undersides

flowers - 4-petaled, greenish-white flowers, very small, long stamens, paper-like bracts; terminal heads cylindrical, dense, spirally arranged flower heads 1, flower heads 2

seedpods - dehiscing around middle, circumscissile, 2-seeded
