Common Name: wild four-o'clock, heart-leaved umbrellawort
Scientific Name: Mirabilis nyctaginea (Michx.) Macmill.
Family Name: Nyctaginaceae - Four-O'clock Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed

stems - upright, 4-sided (edges round), branched above (branching opposite, each then divide again - sometimes multiple), smooth or mostly so growth habit 1, growth habit 2

leaves - opposite, broadly ovate to lanceolate, base heart-shaped, margins entire, smooth, petioled leaves

flowers - 5 fused petal-like sepals, sepals pink to purple and notched, petals absent; subtended by cup-forming floral bracts, 1-5 per; terminal, drooping clusters floral bracts 1, floral bracts 2, flowers 1, flowers 2, flowers 3

seeds - oblong, hairy, brown, 5-ridged
