Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle – annual or biennial, reproducing by seed

stems – upright, granular hairs below often smooth above in inflorescence, weakly ridged, branching above, milky juice growth habit 1, growth habit 2

leaves – alternate, large oval terminal lobe with up to 2 or more pairs of small side lobes, lanceolate above and unlobed, margins toothed and often wavy, sparsely hairy above and below, winged petiole leaves 1, leaves 2, leaves 3

flowers – heads of pale yellow ray (ligulate) florets, ray tips blunt and 5-toothed; terminal clusters, several to many, long peduncles flowers 1, flowers 2
