Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed, rhizomes, and sometimes stolons

stems - reproductive scapes, coarse, hairy, occasional leaf near base, leafless above

leaves - oblanceolate to oblong leaves, hairy above and below, prominent white mid-vein (most apparent near base), rosette leaves

flowers - head of bright yellow ray (ligulate) florets, ray flower toothed ends; head clusters flowers, flower clusters

other - contains milky sap
