Common Name: hawkweed, orange, devil’s paintbrush
Scientific Name: Hieracium aurantiacum L.
Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed, rhizomes, and sometimes stolons

stems - reproductive scapes, coarse, hairy, occasional leaf near base, leafless above growth habit

leaves - oblanceolate to oblong leaves, hairy above and below, prominent white mid-vein (most apparent near base), rosette

flowers - heads of bright orange to red (ligulate) florets, ray flower toothed ends; head clusters flower heads 1, flower heads 2

other - contains milky sap
