Common Name: hollow-stemmed joe-pye weed, trumpetweed
Scientific Name: Eupatorium fistulosum Barratt, Eupatoriadelphus fistulosus
Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle – perennial, reproducing by seed

stems – upright, stout, tall, unbranched, solid purple or green with purple streaks above, hollow, smooth, glaucous growth habit 1, growth habit 2

leaves – whorled 4-7 per node, lanceolate narrow or broad, petioled, pubescent, margins blunt toothed with extend veins at points leaves 1, leaves 2

flowers – heads of purple to mauve or pink disk (tubulate) florets, 5-7 florets per head; terminal cluster, round topped becoming cylindrical flowers
