Common Name: eastern joe-pye weed
Scientific Name: Eupatorium dubium Willd. ex Poiret, Eupatoriadelphus dubius
Family Name: Asteraceae (Compositae) - Aster or Sunflower Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle – perennial, reproducing by seed

stems – upright, stout, tall, unbranched, purple spotted or tinged, solid or partially hollow, rough pubescence growth habit

leaves – whorled 3-4 (5) per nodes, ovate narrow or  broad, strongly 3-veined, margins toothed leaves 1, leaves 2

flowers - heads of purple disk (tubulate) florets, 6-9 florets per head; terminal cluster, round topped becoming cylindrical flowers
