Identification Notes:

life cycle - winter annual, reproducing by seed

culms - upright or spreading growth habit 1, growth habit 2, growth habit 3

leaves - blades dense, soft hairs above and below, twisted, rolled in bud; auricles absent; ligule membranous with hairs; sheaths closed, hairy, veined

seedheads - drooping panicle, frequently purple-tinted seedheads 1, seedheads 2
