Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed and rhizomes

culms - upright, tall, smooth growth habit 1, growth habit 2

leaves - blades flat, smooth to pubescent, rough margins, "M" or "W" constriction mid-way; auricles absent; ligule membranous, short, usually entire; sheaths smooth, closed leaf markings 1, leaf markings 2

seedheads - open panicle, terminal, erect with whorled and ascending branches, spikelets bronze and purple tinged seedheads 1, seedheads 2
