Identification Notes:

life cycle - introduced biennial, reproducing by seed

stems - second year, reproductive, upright, course, branched, red striations growth habit 1, growth habit 2, growth habit 3, growth habit 4, growth habit 5, stem striations, young plant 1, young plant 2

leaves - first year narrowly to broadly ovate, heart-shaped base, large, hairy, wavy, petioles of larger leaves hollow and not furrowed, form rosette; second year alternate on reproductive stems, small leaves 1, leaves 2

flower - heads of red-purple disk (tubulate) florets; head sessile or short stalked, receptacle hooked bracts flower heads 1, flower heads 2, flower heads 3, flower heads 4

seedpods - burs round, hooked bracts sticks to fabric and fur burs
