PLANT PEST ACTION
Andromeda Andromeda Lacebug

Inspect underside of new growth for nymphs. Treat with registered pesticide if needed.
Azalea Azalea Bark Scale
Inspect twig crotches for white, waxy females, pinkish
eggs and crawlers. Treat with registered pesticide if needed
Birch Bronze Birch Borer
Inspect for fresh D-shaped emergence holes and overall health.
Treat trunk and branches with registered pesticide if needed.
Catalpa Catalpa Aphid
Inspect underside of leaves for green-yellow nymphs. Look
for lacewing eggs, ladybugs, and other natural enemies.
Cherry Cherry Scallop Shell Moth Inspect foliage for silken nests and yellowish caterpillars.
Prune out or treat with registered pesticide.

Crabapple
Eastern Tent Caterpillar Examine branch tips for shiny black egg masses and remove.

Green Peach Aphids

Check for natural enemies before making treatment decision.
Dogwood Dogwood Borer Inspect trunk and large branches for holes and fresh sawdust.
Destroy by hand or treat with nematodes.
Euonymus Glover Scale
Look for white crawlers on underside of leaves. Treat with
registered pesticide if needed.
Hardwoods European Fruit Lecanium
Look for white crawlers on underside of leaves. Treat
with registered pesticide if needed.
Fall Webworm
Check tip leaves for eggs and larvae. Prune or treat with B.T.
or other reg. pesticide.
Japanese Beetle
Examine leaves for adults and skeletonizing. Treat
with registered pesticide if needed.
Lacebug
(Sycamore etc.)
Inspect under leaves for brown droppings, black eggs, and lacebugs. Treat with registered pesticide if needed.

Two-Spotted Spider Mite Strike branch on white surface. Check for white mites.

Hemlock Hemlock Scale
Look for white crawlers on underside of needles. Treat
with registered pesticide if needed.
Honeylocust Honeylocust Mite
Shake branch over white surface. Look for reddish-brown
mites and treat with registered pesticide if needed.
Mimosa Webworm Small, gray-brown larvae webbing leaflets near tips. Prune out
or treat with B.T. or other registered pesticide.

Juniper Juniper Webworm
Inspect interior foliage for early mines and silken tubes.
Treat with B.T. or other registered pesticide.
Lilac Lilac Leafminer
Inspect underside of leaves for eggs and early mines. Treat
with registered systemic pesticide.
Linden Aphids
Check foliage for nymphs, honeydew, and natural enemies
before making treatment decision.
Pine (Hard) Pine Needle Scale
Look for reddish-orange crawlers on needles. Treat
with registered pesticide if needed.
Red-headed Pine Sawfly Examine needles for clusters of yellow larvae. Pick off or
treat with registered pesticide if needed.
Rhododendron Rhododendron Borer
Inspect large lower branches for holes and fresh sawdust.
Destroy by hand or treat with nematodes.
Sharpshooter Leafhopper
Check new growth for large, green and orange leafhoppers.
Treat with registered pesticide if needed.
Tulip Poplar Aphids
Check foliage for nymphs, honeydew, and natural enemies
before making treatment decision.
Tupelo Tupelo Leafminer
Inspect leaves for eggs and early mines. Treat with registered
systemic pesticide if needed.
Yew Black Vine Weevil
Check burlap traps for adult weevils. Treat with registered
pesticide if needed two weeks after first captures or
when numbers level off.
Fletcher Scale
Look for white crawlers on underside of needles. Treat
with registered pesticide if needed.
